The University of Arizona College of Pharmacy offers programs for pre-pharmacy as well as for the Doctor of Pharmacy program. The pre-pharmacy program allows a student to get all of the required prerequisites out of the way. This program can generally be completed in two or three years. It offers a solid foundation for what the program will continue to expand upon later.
Those students that complete this portion of the program at the University of Arizona can then be considered to be accepted into the Doctor of Pharmacy program. This is a four-year program. The Doctor of Pharmacy program was introduced in 1981 and continues to be a very good program. In fact, it was recognized in 2005 as being #4 on the list of top graduate schools to attend.
Many students complete their prerequisites elsewhere and then apply to the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy program when they are ready to start the Doctor of Pharmacy program. It is important to make sure the other classwork you have done will be accepted here and fulfill those requirements.
Each year approximately 100 new students are admitted into the Doctor of Pharmacy program at the University of Arizona. All of these students have a competitive GPA of 3.0 or higher, have the necessary coursework in the pre-pharmacy program, and they have shown skills in areas of leadership. They also must volunteer for at least 50 hours in a pharmacy setting.
This particular college continues to rank very high when it comes to their pharmacology program. They have a program that continues to be strongly recommended through the accreditation process. The University of Arizona College of Pharmacy also excels in the area of student services. They have many organizations in place for their students to become involved with.
