The University of New England School of Pharmacy enrolled its first students in the undergraduate pre- pharmacy program in 2007 and its first students in the Doctor of Pharmacy degree program in 2009.
The Doctor of Pharmacy is a four year-degree program, added to the two year pre-pharmacy coursework required for admission into the doctoral program.
The University of New England School of Pharmacy prides itself on its strong research facilities with the College of Osteopathic Medicine, the only medical school in the area and a leader in biomedical research. With access to the College of Health Professions and medical school, the school of pharmacy offers hands-on opportunities for experience in patient care.
One of the school’s core strengths is it offers a chance to be part of researching the links between the sea and medical health, using research and development of new medicines derived from the sea.
The school of pharmacy also has access to the University of New England’s science faculty, which includes some of the world’s best researchers and educators ready to help you learn your profession.
Admission into the Doctor of Pharmacy program is competitive and you must complete a two year pre-pharmacy course at any university prior to acceptance into the doctoral program. For consideration for the Doctor of Pharmacy program you must:
- complete 72 hours of pre-pharmacy coursework
- consistently receive a minimum GPA score of 2.5 with minimum grades of C or more in each subject
- submit a completed Pharmacy College Admission Test
- participate in community and campus activities
- submit letters of recommendation; one from a licensed pharmacist and one from one of your professors
- undertake a background check
- pass an interview with the college of pharmacy
