About the Campbell University School of Pharmacy: Standards of Excellence

The Campbell University School of Pharmacy offers a number of graduate, post-graduate, and professional programs. Undergraduates may choose from a pre-pharmacy program, a BS in Clinical Research, or a BS in Pharmaceutical Sciences. Graduate programs include an MS in Clinic Research, MS in Pharmaceutical Sciences, and MS Physician Assistant Practice. For those who wish to pursue a professional degree, the school offers the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree and three innovative joint degree programs: PharmD plus Master of Business Administration, PharmD plus MS in Pharmaceutical Sciences, and PharmD plus MS in Clinical Research.

Graduates of the PharmD program receive the highest level of professional training that superbly prepares them to take their place in the pharmacy profession. The advanced training provided by the program in patient-oriented or clinical pharmacy practice assures that graduates are ready to function as highly qualified drug therapy specialists. The program requires a six-year commitment that includes a minimum of two years of pre-professional course work. The remaining four years require full-time pursuit of the PharmD degree. The pre-professional, also called pre-pharmacy, curriculum prepares students for admission to all graduate programs offered by the school of pharmacy, including the popular PharmD track. Each student has a faculty adviser who provides valuable guidance and advice for planning his or her class schedule. The school also has a pre-pharmacy coordinator who is another valuable resource for students who wish to prepare for entrance into the PharmD or other graduate programs.

The primary mission of the school of pharmacy is “is to educate and train students in a Christian environment to become pharmacists to meet existing and future healthcare needs.” The mission statement also cites the pharmacy profession’s strong and essential service component: “To serve society with responsibility for the appropriate use of medications, devices, and services to achieve optimal therapeutic outcomes, always providing the best possible care for the patient.” In pursuit of such excellence, the school offers one-year residencies accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) that provide intense concentration in a specific area of pharmacy practice. The ASHP is a professional society for pharmacists who practice in a variety of settings, including long-term care facilities, hospitals, and health maintenance organizations.
