South University has grown tremendously since it was created over a century ago in Savannah, Georgia. It was 1899 to be exact, and it would be 104 years before South University would open its first School of Pharmacy in 2003. When the school of pharmacy opened in Savannah, it was the first one to be founded in Georgia since 1903. Today it is only one of three schools of pharmacy in the state. It was the 89th school of pharmacy to be founded in the United States. South University now sports 10 campuses in 5 states. The only other university campus that offers a school of pharmacy is Columbia, South Carolina.
The four-year PharmD Degree or Doctor of Pharmacy is available in an accelerated 12-quarter program that consists of 1,600 hours of institutional and retail experience designed to place the student on the fast track to success in their pharmacy career. Although four years of studies are squeezed into three, the program is still effective and the one-on-one attention students receive is second to none.
The competition for enrollment to the school of pharmacy is fierce. During the last enrollment over 1,300 applications were submitted for the 80 slots that were available. South University accepts their school of pharmacy applications through PharmCAS. Interested applicants will send the main application directly to PharmCAS. A supplemental application will be sent to South University. All prospective students interested in the PharmD program will have to complete two years of study to earn 63 credit hours prior to applying. Applicants will also have to take the Pharmacy College Admissions Test and those scores will have to be sent directly to PharmCAS.
All transcripts, letters of recommendation, and a personal statement must be sent to PharmCAS. Interviews will then be conducted by invitation only. The enrollment committee will then make decisions based on past academic and non-academic history. A 2.80 grade point average is required. The South University School of Pharmacy located in Savannah takes pride in their school, their students, and the leaders they send out into the community.
