For over a century the Chicago College of Pharmacy located at Midwestern University has been a leader in pharmacy education. The faculty is dedicated to excellence in education that will create pharmacy leaders for the next generation. The Downers Grove Campus escapes downtown Chicago and is comfortably constructed some twenty five miles from downtown. The suburban atmosphere is quite pleasant and the 105 acres the campus rests upon offers space and easy access. The campus is absent from the congestion associated with downtown but still offers numerous opportunities for relaxation and entertainment within walking distance.
In addition, the professional Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) four-year degree is available at CCP. Some type of two year pre-pharmacy education must be completed prior to attending the PharmD program. Grade point averages are always examined and the minimum GPA, whether it is cumulative or science, must be 2.50 or higher. All applicants must complete the Pharmacy College Admission Test. Typically the class size will be around 214 students.
Looking back at 2009, the class was made up of 59% female and 41% male. The average age of accepted students was 23. The average GPA for the new enrollees was 3.25. About 56% of the students accepted were from Illinois. Although the program is rigorous and challenging, normally 99% of the class will graduate. Much of this is accredited to the fine team of faculty members who dedicate their lives to sharing their knowledge.
To apply, interested applicants must send their transcripts, application, and PCAT scores directly to PharmCAS. All prospective applicants will be considered on the basis of their academic background and their service to their community. Motivation and good character will also be requirements for admission. Interviews will be granted by invitation only and does not automatically guarantee admission. The enrollment committee will carefully choose those for admission based on all the criteria involved. The board is tough but that is why those students who gain admission can be proud that they have obtained the opportunity to earn a pharmacy degree from the Chicago College of Pharmacy.
