The Butler University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences

Butler University is located in Indianapolis, Indiana. The school was first founded under the name North Western Christian University in 1855. The Butler University College of Pharmacy was founded in 1904. The COP is one of five colleges on campus. Butler University is a private school focused on the liberal arts. The school is rich in history and tradition and reflects that character into their teaching philosophy. In 1995 the Physicians Assistant Program was created and the college of pharmacy became the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.

Butler University is one of the most respected schools private or public in the nation. Over the last five years the college of pharmacy has ranked 3rd in the nation in the NAPLEX pass rate. There are proud of their 99.26% first-time pass rate, which places them number one amongst private institutions. Through outstanding faculty dedication to student success and the school’s state of the art teaching facilities, the job placement rate after graduation is 100%. The location of the school is very beneficial to COP students because it offers numerous opportunities for first-hand clinical rotation.

If an interested applicant wishes to apply to the Butler University COP they have to go through PharmCAS. The application, ACT and SAT scores, and Pharmacy College Admissions Test scores must be sent directly to PharmCAS. PharmCAS is the Pharmacy Application Service. For the 2009 fall class around 80 students were interviewed but only 50 slots were available. The average grade point average for accepted students was 3.3. In order for students to apply for the PharmD program they must have accumulated 68 hours of pre-pharmacy semester hours from an accredited university. The average tuition is around $36,000 annually. The college of pharmacy program is one of the best in the nation.
