About the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences: “Better Health Starts Here”

With a motto like “Better health starts here,” the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SoPPS) has a comprehensive, patient-centered curriculum. The SoPPS offers several degree programs that rank among the best in the world. The school also has a strong graduate level research component that includes pharmacodynamics, pharmacology, drug discovery, pharmacokinetics, pharmacometrics, and more. With both undergraduate and graduate degree programs, the SoPPS attracts students from all over the US. Degree options include unique combined PharmD degree options such as PharmD/MBA, PharmD/JD, PharmD/MPH, and PharmD/PhD.

The popular Doctor of Pharmacy program (PharmD) requires about two years of preparatory course work of the pre-pharmacy type. Following that, students follow a four-year curriculum of full-time professional study that lays a sound foundation for professional practice or clinical research. Graduates of the program partner with other practitioners in the field of dentistry and allied health fields to act as therapeutic drug management professionals. The PharmD program rests on a sound foundation of nationally recognized integrity and excellence.

The Pharmaceutical Sciences Program offers undergraduate and graduate degrees. Undergraduates pursue either a BS or BS/MS degree while graduate students have the option of an MS or PhD program. These degrees have a strong interdisciplinary component that helps students develop a deep understanding of drug therapy, clinical responses, and the factors that influence them. Candidates for the program generally have an interest in a synthesized approach that combines life sciences such as biochemistry and physiology with traditional sciences such as chemistry and biology. The school offers career counseling and job search assistance for up to one year after graduation.
