Drake University was founded in 1881. The school was named after 19th century adventurer Francis Marion Drake. Located in Des Moines, Iowa, the college of pharmacy and health services is one of five colleges on campus. The college of pharmacy at Drake was established in 1939. For over seven decades the school has displayed excellence in pharmacy education techniques. Prospective students have over 70 programs to choose from including the PharmD (Doctor of Pharmacy) program.
In addition, Drake University takes one-on-one student focus seriously, presenting a 1:14 teacher-to-student ratio. At Drake, teachers and staff make it a mission to learn the student’s name and to create a personal relationship. Although the university is well aware of the importance of graduating students with a competitive education, they want their students to have substantial character as well. The school is dedicated to creating strong people as well as strong pharmacists. This makes Drake one of the most respected private education institutions in the nation. Drake has worked hard to ensure an over 90% graduation rate for their students.
110 slots were filled for the school of pharmacy 2009 fall semester. The average grade point average for accepted students was 3.4. The class makeup was 60% women and 40% men. No letters of reference are required but all pertinent academic information must be mailed directly to PharmCAS. This would include the original application, transcripts, and PCAT scores. A supplemental application will be sent to Drake University COP/HS admissions. In order to attend the PharmD program all students must have obtained 60 semester credits of pre-pharmacy classes. Although most universities care about their students and strive for excellence, Drake takes it a notch higher by dedicating their educational mission towards building great people as well as great pharmacists.
